Default Grenth of Strength

Heya Derv pros...

Need some advise before I run off to cap a skill tonight...

Which has more damage? Grenth or Vow of Strength? Bare in mind I am fighting Snow Wurms solo for survivor, so there are no conditions unless i inflict them. I'm concerned about spreading my attribs into EP to make VoS work when Grenth works on Mysticism...

What do you guys think?

Well given the choice of only those 2...I guess Vow of Strength. Perhaps you could consider Reaper's Sweep (or Wounding Strike which can be capped from Bjora Marshes) and using Aura of Holy Might along with a few other PvE skills instead?

If you posted your build we might be able to give more informed advice, but given a straight choice between those 2 elites, VoS wins.

As for attribute spread, consider Mysticism 11 + 1, Scythe Mastery: 10 + 1 + 1, Earth Prayers 10 + 1...I reckon that would be an acceptable distribution for what you want to achieve.

In this case, AoG over VoS because AoG causes cold damage which deals less damage to most creatures in the shiverpeaks *not sure if snow wurms are included, but I think so*. Aside from that, consider Celestial Beaver's suggestion.

aura of holy might converts it to holy damage i think

be careful capping the avatars, they do hit *mighty* hard

id prefer grenth tbh, lifesteal ftw

OK, well here's my build...

[wild blow][mystic sweep][mystic vigor][aura of holy might][heart of fury][eternal aura][ELITE][faithful intervention]

I've used Grenth already, and it works pretty damn well... but was wondering if vos would be better...

For survivor I would rather go grenth. Lifestealing FTW. Also consider conjure frost, though [aura of holy might] I am unsure which enchantment would take preference. Going with VoS however would mean that you can drop eternal aura and take something else in its skill slot.

Conjures won't work with [[aura of holy might]. As survivor I'd go with either Melandu oder Dwayna. Grenth isn't all that strong.

[[Avatar of Grenth] is good if you're facing enchanted foes or Destroyers. It is meh, but it can be slightly comparable with an Icy scythe mod.

[[Vow of Strength] on the other hand, is great. However, if you or your party has a few conditions up their sleeve, don't expect to kamikaze your way through hordes.

Out of those two, [avatar of grenth] all the way. The life-steal can't be buffed in the way regular physical damage can, but VoS just has no place in a well-rounded team.

Aside from that, I fully agree with MegaVolti.

Using your exact build, and substituting in AoG and VoS, I was getting bigger numbers, and quicker kills with VoS. The Master of Damage reported about 90DPS with Grenth, and 106DPS with Vow of Strength, with Vow of Strength providing quicker kills generally. (Obviously, I moved around some attributes so I had 11 Earth Prayers, and less Mysticism when I used VoS, for the avoidance of confusion)

There's probably not much in it to be completely honest when you take everything into account (Grenth aids your health gain, VoS kills quicker...it just comes down to Pros and Cons). Another thing to note is that most people in this thread advise against VoS for a balanced team (which is fine), but according to your OP, it's not a balanced team, it's soloing Snow Wurms, which means you're in control of all the conditions put on them. Small downside is you have 3 seconds of burning from Heart of Fury, unless you can get hold of another IAS ([[Drunken Master] maybe?).

I've not tried it, but I still reckon Wounding Strike or Reaper's Sweep could potentially kill the Snow Wurms quicker purely because you're adding deep wound into the mix.

As far as general play is concerned, I would concur with MegaVolti: Elites like Dwayna and Melandru would be better choices for balanced teams if you're going for Survivor.

Good luck with your attempt.

Thanks CB, you indeed have it right, it is for Snow Wurms, not a balanced team...

I'm going to try VoS next time I am on, currently I kill all 10 Snow Wurms in about 4 mins...

Yeah, when I mission I use Dwayna, nothing like 50odd hp every skill, plus hex removal...

But as you said again, this is 1 v 1 Snow Wurms... the 3 seconds burning wont matter, you kill em before fury runs out...

Using [avatar of grenth] atm, but was wondering if it was faster than [vow of strength] or not?

I missed this part of your post, I did try Reapers, but Grenth still killed faster... reckon VoS will kill even faster than it...

well it depends really. at 15 mysticism, avatar of grenth would add an additional DPS to your damage. if VoS can do about 20 dps, i'd say go with VoS. but spreading your attributes could risk your character his/her survivor.

1 more thing. theres an edit button there so don't double post. its not good regardless of which forum its on.

Not really. Earth Prayers is all about super survival. There's no harm in dropping some of the skills Anwyn is using now, and using more defensive Earth Prayers skills in their place if you were to use VoS, since you'll have points in Earth Prayers for that anyway. For example, taking VoS would make Eternal Aura a bit redundant, making way for skills like [[Mystic Regeneration (PvE)], [[Mirage Cloak], [[Conviction], etc..

VoS is garbage now because of the added "if the foe is suffering from a condition this skill is useless" Not only is it a pain in the ass to organize a party that utilizes zero conditions just to maximize your own damage but it's dumb because being able to apply a variety of conditions to enemies is a good thing.

Grenth all the way.

OK... So I tested... VoS is the best choice for FARMING SNOW WURMS... Reapers adds a DW at the end, but VoS still gets the job done faster... I can now run all 10 Wurms in like 3 minutes with good spawn timing...

To all the people saying how VoS sucks cos of needing no conditions, please read the OP, I have full control over conditions and am not using this build to party with anyone!

TA...

I challenge you to find anywhere in this thread where Anwyn speaks about wanting to use a VoS build in PvP.
